Like you, I'm deeply in love with animals.
I am a graduate of Murdoch Veterinary School, (dare I say) the best Veterinary school in Australia. I found the University brilliant with a real emphasis on practical knowledge and skills - and particularly enjoyed the fact that our University had its own farm and hospital all under one roof. The education I received was both detailed and broad, from treating animals as small as baby budgies to the awesome adult Clydesdale horse and any animal you can throw in between.
I also hold a Bachelor of Wildlife Biology from the University of Queensland. I've always wanted to work with animals but becoming a vet took a longer route than I expected. I got side-tracked with wanting to be a zookeeper or a ranger roaming the incredibly beautiful Australian landscape (hence the degree in Wildlife Biology).
Prior to becoming a vet, I worked closely with animals for over fifteen years. My first job was an education officer for a public aquarium. The rest of my formative years in Melbourne, Vancouver, Perth and Singapore were spent in the pet care industry starting as a retail assistant in a pet shop and then running a successful part-time dog grooming business (and even starring in DIY grooming video - the latter sparked an interest in connecting with the community through videos).
My YouTube Channel, NicFoundLand (a play on 'Newfoundland' dogs), is a happy 'found' place where animals are number 1; a virtual clinic where I share my thoughts on interesting cases I've come across or my adventures in this pet-filled life in Sydney, Australia (previously, in Melbourne!).
This blog is written primarily for animal lovers which is basically a collection of pet health tips to keep the vet away! So if you are reading this, I suspect, like me, you probably let your dog or cat curl up with you at night and fuss about them like how you'd fuss about your human kids. Your mood lightens immediately when you see your dog being wagged by its tail, or the soft purring of a cat on your lap, or the excited squeals of a guinea pig, the dedicated munching of a rabbit, the endearing nuzzling of a bird...
