Keeping your dog or cat vaccinated is foundational to their long-term health. Whether you're a new puppy or kitten owner working through the primary course, or an established pet owner due for a booster, Fortitude Valley Vet offers vaccination appointments that are thorough, affordable, and clearly priced.

We serve Fortitude Valley, New Farm, Teneriffe, Newstead, Bowen Hills, Spring Hill, Paddington and the surrounding inner northside suburbs of Brisbane.

Vaccinations We Provide

Dog Vaccinations — C2/KC, C3 and C5

Dogs in Australia need protection against several serious and potentially fatal diseases. We offer:

  • C3 (core): Parvovirus, Distemper, and Hepatitis — mandatory for all dogs

  • C2: Bordetella bronchiseptica and Canine Parainfluenza

  • C5: All C3 components plus Bordetella bronchiseptica and Canine Parainfluenza — required for boarding, daycare, and dog parks

We use the Nobivac triannual vaccine at Fortitude Valley Vet. This allows eligible adult dogs to be vaccinated against core diseases every three years rather than annually, reducing the total number of vet visits required over a dog's lifetime. Annual Bordetella and Parainfluenza boosters are still required for dogs.

Cat Vaccinations — F3

We vaccinate cats with the F3 (also called the feline triple), which covers:

  • Feline herpesvirus — a leading cause of cat flu and chronic respiratory problems

  • Feline calicivirus — another major cat flu pathogen

  • Feline panleukopaenia — a highly contagious and serious disease with high mortality in unvaccinated cats

The F3 is the core recommended vaccine for all cats in Australia. We do not routinely offer FIV or FeLV vaccination at our clinic — speak to us if you have specific concerns about your cat's lifestyle and risk profile.

What Happens at a Vaccination Appointment?

Vaccination isn't just an injection. Every appointment at Fortitude Valley Vet includes a complete physical health check. Our vet will examine your pet from nose to tail — eyes, ears, teeth, skin, heart, lungs, abdomen, joints, and lymph nodes. This is often where problems are picked up before they become serious.

  • Head-to-tail physical examination

  • Vaccination by our vet

  • Vaccination certificate for your records

  • Parasite prevention review

  • Time to discuss any questions or concerns

Puppy and Kitten Vaccination Schedules

Puppies

  • First vaccination: 6-8 weeks of age

  • Second vaccination: 10-12 weeks

  • Third vaccination: 14-16 weeks

  • Final Puppy vaccination: 6 months old

  • Adult boosters: Every 3 years (core/C3) with Nobivac triannual; annually for kennel cough (C2/KC)

Until your puppy has completed their primary course (all three vaccines), their immunity is not fully established. We recommend limiting exposure to unknown dogs and unvaccinated animals until this is complete.

Kittens

  • First vaccination: 6-8 weeks of age

  • Second vaccination: 10-12 weeks

  • Third vaccination: 14-16 weeks

  • Final Kitten vaccination: 6 months old

  • Adult boosters: Every year

Common Questions About Pet Vaccination

Why do I need a consultation for a routine vaccination?

Legally and medically, a vet must examine an animal before administering any prescription product — including vaccines. But more importantly, the examination is genuinely useful. We catch things that matter: early heart disease, dental problems, lumps, weight changes, joint stiffness. The consult isn't an add-on; it's the most important part of the visit.

What does C5 include and when does my dog need it?

C5 covers everything in C3 (Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis) plus two kennel cough pathogens: Bordetella bronchiseptica and Canine Parainfluenza virus. Most Brisbane boarding kennels and doggy daycare facilities require a current C5. We provide documentation you can give directly to the facility.

My indoor cat — does she really need the F3?

We get this question a lot, and the answer is yes. Cat flu viruses (herpesvirus and calicivirus) can be introduced to a home environment on hands, clothes, shoes, or by a new cat entering the household. Panleukopaenia is highly stable in the environment and can persist for months. Vaccination is still recommended even for cats that never go outdoors.

How do I know when my pet is due?

We send reminder notifications when your pet is due. Your vaccination certificate also includes the due date for the next booster. If you're unsure, call us and we'll check our records.

Is the Nobivac triannual vaccine approved in Australia?

Yes. Nobivac is manufactured by MSD Animal Health and is registered with the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA). It is used across Australia as part of standard preventive care protocols.

Are veterinary services cheaper at Fortitude Valley Vet?

Veterinary fees vary depending on the procedure, complexity and individual pet. Many Brisbane pet owners tell us they find our pricing highly competitive compared with other inner-city Brisbane veterinary clinics. If you have received a treatment estimate elsewhere, contact our team and we can discuss your options.
